Pros: Zantetsuken is a 2D platformer meets fruit ninja, and it works GREAT. The game is simple, but very fun. Your character runs across the map as you jump from platform to platform while using your right hand to swipe the screen and kill enemies. Sounds simple? It is, but it works great and has endless hours of enjoyment while offering enough challenge to keep you coming back. The game sprinkles in different enemies, power-ups (such as jumping 3x in the air or a stronger blade), and a changing background. This adds enough variety to keep you playing as you try to make it deeper into the game. The game gets more difficult the further you progress, but saves you the frustration of starting over by saving at key checkpoints.

Pros: The objective of Steel Rain is relatively straightforward. You sit in a helicopter protecting a civilian as he walks around. Zombies spawn around the map trying to attack the civilian and you shoot them with a machine gun and rocket launcher. The key is to keep the civilian alive for as long as possible. Each level you are tasked with killing a number of zombies before you can go to the next level. Add in health and ammo packs that randomly drop from the sky and that sums up the game. The game is fun in spurts. The shooting is relatively clean with a few hiccups here and there.

Cons: The game lacks replay value. After playing through the first level in a few minutes, you will realize there isn't much more to the game then killing more zombies. The levels look the same with the only real objective that you have to kill even more zombies to progress. The controls have hiccups and you will find yourself wanting to zoom in and shoot a zombie, but find the controls stuck. There are also often times the civilian will walk behind a wall and get killed while you can't do anything about it. The concept is good, but the game makes the user wanting more.

Pros: European War 3 reminds me of Axis and Allies. Players are presented with scenarios that they must complete that represent different historical wars. For example, one of the early stages is the British fighting the French over the English Channel. The game is reminiscent of a classic resource management game. Each round you get resources based on the land that is under your occupation. You can also spend resources to improve the land such as building cities or factories that give you more resources going forward. You are then able to spend resources on researching new technology, buying infantry / tanks and the like, as well as dropping bombs on the enemy. This is one of the best resource management / war simulation games that I have played on the iPhone. The enemy is not a walkover by any means and is actually pretty difficult which makes the game a great challenge.

Pros: "Spell Sword" is a level-based platform game. Each level the player must complete a task while enemies try to kill the player. Between each level the player can upgrade "spell cards" as well as equip armor with different abilities (for example one increase your chance of blocking or dodging an enemy attack). There are currently 3 major levels in the game with 20 tasks the player must complete. The levels switch up add replay value as they are very different. For example in one you are floating on platforms that swing back and forth on top of a pool of lava and you need to constantly dodge enemies while jumping between platforms and not falling off. The spell cards shoot out ice to freeze enemies or make you temporarily invincible. Although the game is relatively simple, the level variety, spell cards, and monsters make it strangely addicting. I played through all 60 tasks over the span of a few hours and while it started off slow, turned out to be a lot more fun than expected.

Cons: The game is clearly still in development. The AI can be stupid at times as I found myself finding a loophole to beat certain tasks. The game needs more monsters and more levels, but I think the developer is looking to build this in as there are a few "Coming Soon" signs.

Pros: League of Extraordinary Birds is a decent concept at heart. A side scrolling game where you fly a bird and avoid "evil" gas clouds that try to thwart your foward progress. After each level you can buy upgrades such as a rocket pack that zooms you forward, better gas masks to protect you from the clouds, a different bird (smaller, more agile), and more. The upgrades *try* to add variety to a game and keeps it going as you try to go as far as possible and set the next high score.

Cons: Although the game is clearly better with no upgrades, they simply just don't add enough to make it truly replay-able. After 1 hour of trying a few birds and adding a few upgrades to my character I quickly got bored. The game is in serious need of more enemies, more stages, and better set goals. Otherwise you're left with a nice concept that doesn't have much legs to stand on.

Pros: Hands down one of the best 2D platformers on the iOS. This is a true platformer as it does not have much of a story (save your damsel in distress). The graphics are relatively simple with only shades of a few colors, but works very well in creating a smooth gameplay. The controls are smooth with a 4 direction keypad, jump and shoot. Add in a few weapon upgrades and you have the makings of a traditional classical 2d platformer. Where the game shines BY FAR is in the scenarios that are setup. Levels are never the same as the game introduces new enemies, interesting boss fights, and traps. For example, in one level you are flying a rocket through a meteor shower. In another level the gravity of the level moves around such that your character will be walking on the ceiling or on the side. This keeps each level interesting and fun. One of the few games I finished in 2-3 sittings.
