Pros: If you are looking for straightforward game play that is easy to learn and difficult to master, then “Stay Alive” is the arcade-inspired game for you.
You avoid space debris and space bad guys while in your spaceship, navigating up and down with your left hand and shooting with your right. My phone pleasantly felt like a controller and I was able to control my spaceship WITHOUT placing a finger over it (thus making it impossible to see, which can be a problem with these types of games).
The speed of the ship got my heart racing; be warned, it is very fast. You need the patience and determination of old school game play to see you though this one. However, unlike most older games, “Stay Alive” goes into infinity, without an end boss or kill screen. The game is over when you finally die.
Although the act of indefinitely staying alive is impossible, I really enjoyed this...
Cons: As mentioned, my heart races while playing this fast-paced game, but what I didn’t yet disclose is that I also tend to go old school with my “controller” movements (i.e. I physically move my phone up and down in real space like a small child). The downside to this behavior: it makes “Stay Alive” a NO for playing on public transportation or really in front of anyone you hope to impress.

Although the act of indefinitely staying alive is impossible, I really enjoyed this game. I liked that I was ultimately just competing with my own high score and I especially enjoyed the nostalgic sound effects.
