Pros: I like the LOOK of “Monster Mayhem,” but the FEEL is off.
Cons: You play as your finger (i.e. no player avatar), killing monsters while mayhem ensues. There is a quasi “Plants vs. Zombies” look to the game, like the nighttime graveyard levels. Plus the bad guys (including, but not limited to zombies) walk from right to left, and then attack a gate that presumably protects you.
In “Plants vs. Zombies,” when a zombie enters your house, there is this nice touch of “the zombies ate your brains,” putting the situation into context and including the player into the world. But here, the success of a level is determined by the amount of damage made to your inanimate gate, and if the bad guys knock it down, it’s just “game over.”

Game play is essentially vigorous cleaning your iOS device with your finger. The knife attack is a repeated swiping over bad guys. I’m certain I looked like I was desperately trying to remove a stubborn stain. The gun attack is repeated tapping, but I found that movement even more annoying; plus it’s not very effective. Apparently there are other weapons to unlock, but my interest was not kept long enough to try them out.
