GameStop Gift Card Giveaway! You guys ready for Round 2 of our Weekly Giveaways? Hope so! This week we’re giving away an awesome $50 GameStop Gift Card, so you can shop to your heart’s content! As always, we’re looking for awesome reviews here at PopuGamer, so just write a killer review for any game, and if we think your review is the best, you win! It’s really that easy.

We’ll be judging reviews on quality and originality, and a big factor that will help your review get noticed is the number of “helpful votes” you receive (the little thumbs up icon next to each review: Thumbs up!). So starting today, write an awesome review, get some solid votes from other users, and make sure to enter before the deadline: 11:59PM EST, Sunday, May 29.

Official contest rules are here. Remember, no funny business! We look at all of the voting data before we determine a winner, so if you’re creating fake accounts or sabotaging other reviews, it’s game over for ya. Just play nice, write a great review, and good things will happen!

Be sure to spread the word, and follow us on Twitter Follow us! and Facebook Fan us! for the latest updates!

LA Noire Giveaway!School’s out, and PopuGamer is kicking off the summer with an amazing weekly giveaway! As you know, we’re all about showcasing awesome game reviews from our users, so we’re on the hunt for the best of the best. Each week, we’ll pick some games we’d like to see reviews on, and whoever writes the best review that week will win a kick-ass prize. Too good to be true? Hardly!

This week, we’re giving away Rockstar’s highly-anticipated detective thriller L.A. Noire (PS3 or Xbox, your choice)! And we’re looking for reviews on these four games:

Write an awesome review, tell your friends to vote for you, and if you get the most helpful votes on your review (the little thumbs up icon next to each review: Thumbs up!) by 11:59PM, Sunday, May 22, then you win! It’s really that easy.

You must be a registered PopuGamer user to win (duh), and no funny business, guys. We know you may be tempted to cheat your way to a win (e.g., voting for yourself a bunch of times), but we’re watching you! We make the final call on who wins, so just don’t be a jerk, and you should be all good.

Good luck, guys! And make sure to stay tuned for the summer. We’ll be giving away ridiculously awesome prizes every week!

We’re happy to announce the launch of a brand new program called the +1 Club, which is our way of giving some well-deserved props to our most passionate members! You might notice some of these folks on the site struttin’ their stuff with a shiny new badge and a cool icon next to their avatars . While we think all of our members are awesome, we wanted to give some special recognition to those members who play a huge part in making PopuGamer a great community. Whether it be through awesome reviews or helpful comments, these are the members who are stepping it up! As a member of the +1 Club, you’ll get some fun perks here and there, starting with some ridiculously boss PopuGamer swag. Sweet, huh?? And if you’re not yet a +1′er, don’t worry! Anyone can join in the fun, and you could be next! Just check our FAQ for more details.

+1 swag! Sweet, huh?

Last weekend the PopuGamer team headed out to Boston to attend PAX East! It was seriously tons of fun, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in gaming. From the game demos, to the classic arcade, to the classic console freeplay, to the dance central stations, to the QR code hunt, to the game tournaments, to the crazy amount of speaker sessions… man, there was just so much awesome stuff to do! We really didn’t even have time to do everything we wanted to.

The best part about PAX was that everyone was super friendly. Most everyone was rocking some sort of gaming-related clothing (whether cosplaying or not), and it was just easy to see that everyone shared the same passion for games. This made it really easy just to talk to anyone and everyone, meet some cool people, and just have a great time.

If you were there, you might have noticed me, Vince, and Clara as we were walking around in our PopuGamer t-shirts, shoving fliers in your face and giving away stickers. This was by far the most tiring thing to do, but you gotta do what you gotta do to try and get the PopuGamer community bigger and better! Anyway, check out the pics below!

The team has been working hard these past few weeks to bring you a leaner, meaner PopuGamer! While you probably can’t tell just by looking at the site, we’ve done a ton on the backend to make things snappier and faster! We’re all really excited about the changes, and we hope it makes for a much better user experience. As always, let us know if you’ve got any suggestions or see any bugs with the site, and we’ll get right on it!

In other news, the team is headed to PAX East today, and we’re ready to have some fun! If you’re headed there too, give us a shoutout on twitter and we can try to meet up. We might even have a T-shirt for ya! Anyway, travel safe guys, and see you all there!

This weekend we went to check out Video Games Live, and it was amaaaaazing! If you’ve never heard of it, it’s a concert with a symphony playing all video game music! I knew it was going to be fun, but I had no idea it was going to be so good. The founder, Tommy Tallarico, definitely put on a great show and mixed up songs with interesting segments like a Guitar Hero and Frogger contest, some funny video game mashup videos, and cool guests like brentalfloss (of YouTube fame) and Kinuyo Yamashita (composer for the original Castlevania soundtrack). The music was incredible as well, with songs from Halo, God of War, Warcraft, Mega Man, Shadow of the Colossus, Assassin’s Creed, Street Fighter, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario, Portal (!!), and more! It was seriously an amazing concert, and I highly recommend it to any and all gamers out there. Check out the pics below to see what the concert was like!

Our last feature for 1.1 has been pushed live, and you’re gonna “like” it! HAHA, I’m funny. Anyway, check out the awesome Facebook and Twitter integration we put into the review system, and share your reviews with your friends! Give your friends some love and “like” their reviews! It’s a love-fest here at PopuGamer, so feel free to partake. And of course, if you see something wacky or have any suggestions, let us know!

Some sweet new features have just been unleashed on PopuGamer, and I know you’re itching to test ‘em out. Haha, well, we certainly hope you are! We’ve updated our forums, allowed for commenting on reviews, and tweaked profiles a bit. We’re still working on some more updates to the site, so stay tuned for one last installment before the end of the year. As always, we love hearing feedback from you, so hit us up or drop a comment, and check out the gallery below!

The guys at We Are NY Tech were kind enough to interview me for their up and coming site that features the faces and profiles of the NY tech community. One thing we’ve definitely come to realize from running PopuGamer out of NYC is the close-knit nature of the startup community here. It’s a small community when compared to Silicon Valley, sure, but it’s got that scrappy, underdog mentality, it’s growing like crazy, and we freakin’ love it. So head on over to We Are NY Tech if you’d like to read more about the NY tech scene, and if you’re itching to see my shining face, you can check out my interview here!
