PopuGamer — mobile game discovery from real people!

PopuGamer is the fun and easy way to find, review, and talk about what's great — and not so great — in the latest mobile games. It's about real gamers giving their honest opinions, without all the bull. There's no editorial team here at PopuGamer. All of the content, reviews, and rankings are submitted by our awesome users, so you get the real deal on today's games. We encourage everyone to contribute and hope you'll find PopuGamer a chill place to talk about what we all love — gaming!

The Team

Patrick Chen (pkchen)

Patrick is a co-founder of PopuGamer. He's been gaming since the early days of Game & Watch and still remembers the days of the Atari Paddle. Patrick is fanatical about gaming and once even wrote a term paper about Shigeru Miyamoto (which did not fare so well grade-wise, meh). Patrick plays mostly Platformers, and always has a soft spot for 8-bit retro games (Tiny Tower you kill me!). Patrick is your typical nerd, getting his Mechanical Engineering degree from Stanford in 2004, and recently earning his graduate degree at NYU (aka Patrick is seriously broke). You can catch him hanging around Twitter most days, or on foot searching for decent boba in Manhattan.

Vince Wu (nicodemus)

Vince is a co-founder of PopuGamer. When he's not working his day job, he's hanging out around the $9.99 bin at GameStop buying really cheap, really terrible games. Vince loves playing RPGs and Strategy games and is always on the lookout for great toilet games (har har). Vince graduated from Stanford (where he was freshman roommates with Patrick!) in 2004 with a B.S. in Computer Science and once coded a Bomberman-like game as well as a Spy vs. Spy-themed FPS (Patrick thoroughly tested these games and can attest to their legit-ness). Vince now works and lives in Manhattan and is always down to hang out and watch some Linsanity.

Nathan Lenkowski (ltmayonnaise)

Nathan is the designer and front-end developer for PopuGamer. He's been gaming since he was just a wee lad and may well have been the luckiest kid EVER for having a father who worked at Konami during the Arcade/NES/SNES glory days. He has fond memories of the original Metal Gear (and its infernal save codes) consuming most of 1987 and of birthdays spent in the Konami offices playing some of the finest coin-ops ever made; TMNT, X-Men and Aliens! Besides gaming Nathan digs photography and music and runs doublenifty, a blog of questionable intellectual merit. He is the founder of the web design company LittleBigLab.

The wooden mallet of Flint Fireforge!

Jon Petto (billrizer)

Jon is the back-end developer for PopuGamer. The course was set in the early 80's when a family friend introduced him to Pong. The installation of Street Fighter at his local 7-11 and the discovery of warp zones in Super Mario Bros. cemented the path forward. Currently based in Chicago, Jon runs a small web development agency called Equal Parts Creative. When he's not typing & clicking, Jon can be found consuming (& occasionally preparing) delicious coffee and pretending he's not too old to skateboard.

FAQ

Green Highlight Why are some games highlighted in green?
In our Popular Games section, we highlight some of the highest ranked games in green. This was just our way of bringing attention to the most kick-ass popular games.

Why are some games ranked higher but have lower percentages?
The way we rank games is based in part on the percentage of people who voted that they liked the game, but not completely. We factor in a bunch of other stuff, like who is voting, how recently they voted, etc. We put all of this data and mash it up and spit out a definitive ranking. So sometimes, yeah, games that have lower percentages may be ranked higher. But hopefully, if we're doing things right, the top games will really be the best games out there.

Badges How can I earn badges?
This is our little secret! We have a bunch of achievement badges you can earn, but we want you to be pleasantly surprised when you earn them. Fun, huh?

A game I want to review is not on your site. What gives?
Damn. You got us there. While we've tried to be as thorough as possible, PopuGamer isn't perfect - not even close! But if you find a game that we haven't added to our index yet, please let us know, and we'll get it fixed right away!

I found a mistake in your game data. Can you fix it?
We sure as hell can. Just let us know here, and thanks for your help!

I've received a game before its official release date. Why can't I review it?
Well aren't we special. Lol, just kidding. Props to you for getting hooked up. But here at PopuGamer we try to keep it real – no pre-release reviews so that everyone gets a fair chance at reviewing. Just sit tight for a bit and play that game some more. When the release date comes, you'll get your opportunity to review!
